How My Dog Ruined My Budget

August 23, 2018

Hello, mi gente!

In a previous post I said I would be more transparent with my monthly purchases. Well, I lied…kind of. It would be unfair to divulge my finances since they’ve gone haywire due to my dog’s, Panda, frequent visit to the vet’s.

Panda was a Christmas gift I received almost 10 years ago and although Shih Tzus are known to the dumbest dogs ever, I not-so-secretly believe that Panda is an alien in dog form — that bitch is smart. Until now, she has never been sick. During the last weekend of July, I noticed Panda kept her left eye closed, and at the vet’s we learned that Panda severely injured her left eye. After five vet visits, a hashtag campaign (#PrayForPanda), and hundreds of dollars, she was referred to a specialist.

Despite the cost (see below), seeing Panda in pain and inactive with the Cone of Shame has been torture. An injury like this takes time to heal, but I have no patience. I am grateful that friends, family, and coworkers have asked for updates on Panda knowing that she means so much to me. I am also grateful for my fiancé, who has shared the financial burden. And for my credit card, which takes the brunt of the cost.

I cannot wait until this is a distant memory and when Panda can join us at tailgates and outings. Until then, please continue to #PrayForPanda!
